Lauren Gibbemeyer – Grand Champions Cup

After a couple months of being away from each other, Team USA is finally reunited here in Japan for our last tournament of the summer: Grand Champions Cup!

Here’s a little glimpse of what we’ve been up to after our first few days here:
We started the trip off in a baggage frenzy at LAX as we shuffled the contents of one bag to another to avoid overweight baggage charges.  This has been a unique trip so far because everyone is coming form their respective professional teams form all over the world to meet up in Japan instead of everyone traveling together.  Therefore, we have a lot more baggage per person on the trip over.
finding out that one of our teammates (and my roommate) has a serious obsession…
Getting our social media fix before we have to say goodbye to wifi
After 13 hours or so of travel, we landed in Tokyo and met up with the rest of the team.  Needless to say, there was a hugfest and smiles all around.  Reunited and it feels so good!Since we arrived a solid week before our first match, we had the opportunity to stay in Japan’s Olympic Training Center to prepare and train.

We had the awesome opportunity to visit the Mizuno headquarters in Tokyo and meet some of the hardworking people who help keep team USA and many others taken care of with some of their best products!

The past week flew by and before we knew it, we were off to Nagoya to start off the first half of Grand Champions Cup. After a quick ride on the bullet train, we arrived at our fabulous hotel here in Nagoya.  This city brings back a lot of fond memories from when I played here two years ago
