Sarah Ammerman – 3 Things I wish I Knew Before Going Overseas

Going overseas for the first time can be both exciting and scary at the same time. Here are a few things Sarah Ammerman wish she knew before going overseas:

  1. Packing: No matter how many times you pack up your life in 2 suitcases for 9 months it never gets easier. And the coming back after accumulating more junk, is always harder. Just accept this fact and the breakdown that comes with it each time.
  2. Language: There is A LOT of english spoken in Europe, if you want to you can almost 100 percent get by somehow without knowing the language, BUT your experience will be enhanced enormously when you make the effort to learn the language.
  3. Friendships/Travel/Experience: The most important thing you will return to America with is not how many volleyball games you won but how many new friendships you made with foreigners, how many passport stamps you collected, and memories to last you a lifetime that happen off the court as well as on.

Thanks for sharing, Sarah! Here’s a little video of Sarah talking about her current season in Germany:
