Soccer player, Leigh Jakes, has been able to travel more than the average person thanks to her professional career. When thinking about what have been her favorite places she’s been to in the world, three came to mind:
1) South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup- It was absolutely amazing to see a universal understanding/appreciation for the beautiful game in the midst of such strong country pride.
2) Mini “Euro trip” (Sweden->Berlin->Amsterdam->Copenhagen->Sweden)- I spent a week exploring some of Europe after season with a few teammates (visited the Berlin Wall, went on a “unique” German pub crawl, explored the infamous Red Light District, strolled down Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping area, and made some new friends from all over the world).
3) Mid season training camp in Piteå, Sweden– Last season I played in Finland’s top women’s league, Naisten Liiga. While the Finnish league is strong, it was an awesome opportunity to play against Piteå, a team in what ranks among the strongest women’s soccer leagues in the world, on their home field.
