A lot of my down time is spent with my wife and 20 month old boy. We usually try to get him out of the house everyday so we’ll go to the park and let him run around or if we have more time we’ll go to an indoor pool or the zoo.
Thankfully my son is still young enough where we don’t really have to worry about school (yet). I think the single toughest event is the actual travel and trying to keep a little one entertained and mellow for a 10 hour flight while also trying to get some sleep and change your own internal clock.
My wife has done the trip solo a few times already so I have the utmost respect for her. Overall the toughest part about being overseas with a kid is that community and family you have at home is not there to help you raise him. We’ve been blessed to be in Tours, France, for three years so we’ve been able to build up a little of that community, but it’s just not the same as having Grandma come over for a day so you can go out and do whatever you need.
Cohen is also a super energetic kid so he can wear us out running around everywhere, and sometime it’s tough when you’re doing double days and my wife is also running 70+ miles a week, and you just want to sit on the couch and relax. But he’s a great kid and we love the little adventures we get to have with him.
