Unknown Protein Source Overseas, No Problem.

Taking a short trip to a country where produce, meat sources, water, and food in general are different than what you are accustomed to back home involves a lot of planning when it comes to being a traveling athlete. You’re traveling to places and other countries to compete and win, so fueling your body is important, but when you have limited resources, fueling becomes extremely difficult. As a professional athlete, you have to be careful when it comes to what you put in their body because some meat sources in different countries contain substances that will cause an athlete to test positive when taking a drug test (Each country has different regulations on what type of hormones they can use when it comes to their animals). So if your trainer warns that you will only be able to eat the “eggs and beans” from all the protein sources that are available at the site, packing becomes crucial.

Some carry on ideas for the airport travel.

(1) Good magazine (2) Gum (3) Converter: You never know when you will need to charge your electronics when you are traveling through different airports so you always want to have a few converters on hand (4) Refillable water bottle: Buying water at the airport is unnecessarily expensive so being able to refill a water bottle is nice (5) Passport holder: Keep your passport from getting raggity through the years. Add a few of your most used credit cards and use it as your travel wallet (6) Bose Noise Canceling Headphones: Noise canceling headphones are clutch on long flights. Hello, Good music. Goodbye, crying babies. (7) We didn’t mean to tag the backpack with a number, clearly you need something to carry all of your stuff.

(1) Protein powder shaker: This is a must have to have drink your protein of choice on the go. (2) Tissues: Tissues are always good to have, not just for your nose, but for the next time your stall is lacking toilette paper or you’re in desperate need of a napkin. (3) Emergen-C packets: If you easily get sick then pack a bunch of these to get in your Vitamin C up. Being sick when traveling is not fun. (4) TUMS: This is another health conscious item to keep yourself feeling at your best. Goodbye heartburn. Plus, they are cute and travel sized. (5) KonaRed: Antioxidant packets for the go. Just add water, it’s magic. (6) Tide to go: Be prepared for any laundry situation. If you have something quick to wash then fill up the sink and add a little bit of the detergent to go packet and hang it dry.  (7) EAS Protein powder: Self explanatory, athletes need their protein.

(1) GoGo squeeZ: Fruit on the go packs. When you don’t know your fruit situation these little guys are so easy to pack. They are little travel pouches with twistable caps. They are meant and designed for kids but perfect for traveling athletes. (2) Quaker Oatmeal: Just add hot water and you have a breakfast of a champion. (3) Beef Jerky: Since some countries have questionable meat and may contain stuff (Again, different country use different hormones with their meat) that will test positive in a drug test, it’s always good to bring alternative protein options. (4) Arnold Palmer Half Iced Tea & Half Lemonade Liquid Water Enhancer: If you’re going to a country where the water source is suspect and you’ll be left drinking a million bottle of waters, this is the perfect solution. Add a little flavor to your boring water.  (5) Goldfish: Snacks, snacks, and snacks. (6) Justin’s Peanut butter/Justin’s Almond butter: Justin’s has some awesome tasting peanut butter and almond butter and a lot of flavors to choose from. (Chocolate, hazelnut, honey, etc.) They sell jars but these little packets are perfect for traveling. (7) Chicken Salad: If you’re not a fan of tuna, this is an alternative way to get another source of protein on the road. (8) Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Blonde Veranda Blend Instant Coffee: 8 cups of your favorite coffee on the go, just add hot water. (9) Oroweat Sandwich Thins: If you love making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches skip bringing a loaf of bread and bring these. Super compact and portable. Makes 8 sandwiches. (10) StarKist Tuna Creations: Another source to get protein from. Great to add on salads, sandwiches, or just to eat by itself. (11) Tapatio Hot Sauce: If you’re a hot sauce lover then these little packets are a must.
