Take your shoes off.
Take your laptop out.
Take your jacket off.
Fill out a blue US Customs forum.
Declare your goods.
Get in line behind the crying baby?
Or behind the slow first time flyers?
Wait in line.
Keep waiting in line.
Oops, you forgot your liquids.
Pack everything back up again.
Pray you didn’t leave anything behind.
OR get Global Entry and TSA PreCheck.
Global Entry is a travelers best friend and it makes you feel like airport VIP. Not only do you get to skip the long US Customs lines when re-entering the USA, but you also get approved for TSA PreCheck that allows you to skip American security lines. Yep, no more taking your computer out or taking your shoes off. But it all comes at a price of $100 and you must be approved first and you can get denied.
Once you fill out your application and are approved online you will have one final appointment (you schedule about 1-2 months in advance) that will be held at select airports. (Note: you still can be randomly chosen for the full x-ray check. But if you have already bypassed the long lines to get to the x-ray it is still wonderful. Source)
At your final appointment you watch a short film, they take your fingers prints, scan your passport, they ask you a few questions, approve you, and you, your Global Entry, and TSA-PreCheck are on their way. Living happily ever after for the next 5 years.

Our best advice: Get global entry. TSA-pre check costs $85 and Global Entry costs $100 and it automatically registers you for TSA-Pre for free. And you get both for 5 years. The initial online application, setting an appointment, and going to the appointment may take some time, but we PROMISE it is worth it.

“Nothing screams jet-setter quite like the dude who blows right by the herd of disheveled, bleary-eyed passengers stumbling off an international flight. You’ve seen him before, near the customs booth, bypassing the lines as you stand waiting… and waiting… and waiting to hear those magical words from the agent, “Welcome home, Mr. Jaccoma.” Turns out, you can be that dude! And it’s not even hard. All you need is Global Entry. And since you probably don’t know what that is, or how it works, we’re here to answer all of your questions.” Read Here
